Fly Tying 101 Class (via Zoom), TBD

$0.00
Our live and highly interactive online fly tying course is the perfect way to discover the fun of fly tying! Presented in conjunction with Steve Hudson and FlyKits.net, this course is just the thing to help you take your first steps in fly tying...or to brush up on the basics if you need a refresher. It's a two-session course, and you should plan to attend both sessions.

Do you need prior experience? Not at all! We will start at the very beginning, learning key skills and techniques as we go. Each new skill will build on the ones learned before it, and by the time we're done you'll be well on your way to a lifetime of enjoyment in the fascinating world of fly tying.

The course is based on Steve Hudson's award-winning book FLY TYING 101, and participants in previous classes tell us that it is helpful to have a copy of the book on hand to refer to during and after the course. The book is available from the shop as well as from Steve's site, FlyKits.net.

You'll need to have basic fly tying tools. These include the following:
1) A tying vise
2) Fly tying scissors
3) A fly tying bobbin
4) A half hitch tool
5) A spool of black tying thread (3/0 nylon or 6/0 Veevus)
6) Some Sally Hansen's Hard As Nails clear nail polish (to use as head cement)
7) Optional but recommended: A fine-tip bottle for dispensing the head cement
We have these tools available here in the shop, and we're glad to help you get exactly the right tools for your needs. You can pick up a bottle of Sally Hansen's at most drug stores, at Walmart, etc.

What about tying materials? Here's what you'll use in this course:
Hooks: Size 8 3XL nymph (Woolly Bugger-style) hooks* Size 12 or size 14 nymph hook standard length or 1XL

Intro to Fly Tying Class
5 Stars

This is fun, well put together class. We learned the basics of fly tying and by the end of the class we tied 5 flies and we were well equipped to tie flies on our own. Instructor is very knowledgable and engaging. Very fun time!
